NYS Learning Standard in Mathematics
(Revised March 2005)
On March 15, 2005 the Board of Regents adopted to
the performance indicators for "Algebra", "Geometry",
"Algebra 2", and "Trigonometry", along with the
alignment modifi- cations to prekindergarten through
grade 8. A revised NYS Mathematics Core Curriculum is
now available online at:

The
Education Department will offer a two hour update on the
status of the Board of Regents newly adopted Learning
Standard for Mathematics: Standard 3. This session is
open to the public with no pre-registration necessary.

A comprehensive parent guide for the Grades 3-8 Testing
Program including Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs),

State Education Department has posted information for
individuals from the Gulf Coast states affected by
Hurricane Katrina who are seeking services in New York
State.

6/24/05 (revised) - Mathematics Graduation Standard: The
Board of Regents discussed in June the recommendations
of the Mathematics Standards Committee concerning
mathematics graduation requirements. The recommendations
relate to the timeline for administering Regents exams
in Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2 and Trigonometry;
units of credit to meet diploma requirements; and ways
to reward students who achieve mastery in mathematics
and/or science. The June report includes SED staff
comments on each of the recommendations. The Regents are
scheduled to take action on these issues at their
October meeting. A copy of the June report to the

9/1/05 - Early Childhood Policy Statement and Public
Forums - In July 2005, the Board of Regents put forth a
revised (draft) early childhood policy statement, "Early
Education for Student Achievement in a Global
Community", based on current research and large-scale
federal and state initiatives grounded in this research.
