Students from Barry Tech's Dental Assisting program took part in the largest dental meeting in the United States when they attended the 2016 Greater New York Dental Meeting (GNYDM) at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on November 28.

The 92nd annual GNYDM attracted more than 54,000 health care professionals at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City and featured more than 1,500 technical exhibits which demonstrated the newest technology for the dental profession. Attending the event enabled Barry Tech students to familiarize themselves with the latest dental products and cutting-edge technological advances available from companies from around the world.

At Barry Tech, Dental Assisting students learn the skills needed to assist in all phases of dentistry, from taking X-rays to four-handed chairside assisting, and have the opportunity to complete a clinical rotation and assist in actual dental procedures. Through hands-on experience, students develop skills as receptionists, office managers, chairside assistants and learn how to use personal computers for patient records, billing and correspondence. Students also have the opportunity to work with new technology in digital radiography.
