RESCHEDULED: Public invited to Every Student Succeeds Act Meetings on March 28

Nassau BOCES, in collaboration with the New York State Education Department, will hold public input meetings on the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) on Tuesday, March 28 (originally scheduled for March 15). These meetings will take place at the Robert E. Lupinskie Center for Curriculum, Instruction and Technology, 1 Merrick Avenue, Westbury. Participants can choose between the 4-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. sessions. Anyone who had registered to attend the March 15 meeting is asked to re-register for the March 28 meeting by emailing

Members of the public, including residents of Nassau County, educators, local business owners and representatives of civic organizations, are invited to attend and provide feedback on the state’s education plan.

Registrants will receive a set of questions developed by the New York State Education Department prior to the meeting. These questions will be used to guide the conversation.

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which replaced the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), is set to take full effect in the 2017-18 school year. New York, along with the other U.S. states, will be submitting plans to the federal Education Department that outline the educational goals on issues they have set for their K-12 students.
